EDX600 Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer

X-ray fluorescence (XRF) was initially developed as a thickness measurement tool. In recent decades, however, the variety of applications that it provides an economical solution for has grown steadily. One such use is its accurate, rapid & nondestructive analysis of the content of precious metals in various samples.

Some popular desktop instruments for precious metal analysis require Liquid Nitrogen (LN2) to cool their detection systems. However, LN2 is a hassle for the user as well as an added expense. Because of that, Skyray™ XRF has developed our gold tester and precious metal analyzer so that they do not require LN2 but still provide excellent performance. Furthermore, the software packages have been developed specifically for precious metals analysis; providing easy navigation and report generation as required by users that don’t have a technical background.

Skyray Instrument EDX600 compact XRF analyzer is one of the most cost-effective solutions to key precious metals analysis for jewellers, refiners and recyclers, banks, etc. It’s able to detect element content for Au, Ag, Pt, Pd and Cu.

This equipment was developed through several years of experience working with jewellers with the aim of developing a low-cost option (half the price of older technologies). The system provides everything that an organization testing for gold, silver, platinum and palladium content needs. It has been developed with easy to use software that provides a straightforward testing option for gold jewellers, scrap jewellery buyers. A single screen image provides information on the system, the spectrum, measurement time, sample image and real time results. This system provides a colour camera system for the easiest sample viewing and alignment. In only 10 seconds, operator can determine the karat rating of a gold piece and after a few extra seconds the complete precious metal content information will come out.

The EDX600 is equipped with a proportional counter detection system which cannot always distinguish peaks other than Au, Ag, Pt, Pd and, because of this, it is most useful when in situations involving these four elements.

In light of this consideration, users buying back jewellery primarily for the gold & platinum content will typically choose EDX600 because of its lower cost when compared to units capable of distinguishing a larger range of elements.
